Swing Tip of the Week from Senior Coach, Sidney Strong
The secret to crisp pitching shots is making a descending blow with your hands leading the clubhead into the ball.
The secret to crisp pitching shots is making a descending blow with your hands leading the clubhead into the ball.
Weight Left, Turn Left
For a basic pitch, open your stance, play the ball in the middle and favor your left side. Your hands should be an inch or two in front of the ball; the clubface should be square. Stay left as you swing back and your wrist hinges the club upward.
Instead of flipping your wrist through impact, control the down-swing by turning your torso to the left. This keeps the left wrist flat and the clubface square as your body turns.
Take Your Time
Good tempo is crucial for control, so maintain the same smooth, back-and-through feeling on every pitch shot. Never increase your swing speed to hit the ball further. If you need more distance, simply use a longer swing.
